Roy Foster

Owner

I am the proud owner of Roy Foster’s Automotive. I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. From the time I was a young kid I knew I wanted to own an automotive shop just like my father Roy Foster. My first automotive job was working for my father Roy in 1978. I started my automotive career off pumping gasoline, washing windshields and checking oil. I loved working for my father; he taught me the value of honesty and hard work. I always looked up to him for doing everything possible to set his family up for success. I enjoyed working in our shop as an ASE Master Technician for nearly 30 years. When I am not at work I enjoy skiing with my sons Logan, Zach and Mike, and my daughter Abbey. I am very happily married to Jacque Foster and hope to travel the world with her when we are retired.

Michael Foster

General Manager

I was born in Reno, Nevada at what used to be Washoe Medical Center. I am proud to be a part of my family’s business. Starting from the time I was in middle school I began working with Roy Foster’s. As a kid I was mainly responsible for the janitorial work around the shop and in the office. When I turned 19 I began working in the office as a service advisor where I got the chance to work face to face with our customers for the first time. My father Roy has been instrumental in teaching me the ins and outs of his business. I have learned so much about cars and life from my father, he sets the best example of what and employer, father and husband should be. I have been taught that customers are not numbers and we need to treat each of them like friends and family. When I am not in the office I love being outdoors, I spend my summers golfing, hiking with my wife Keri and our dogs Stanley and Xanna. During the winters I ski as much as possible with Jimmy, Logan, Zach and my dad Roy. Keri and I will be having our first child in April of 2020 and we could not be happier. Keri and I plan to travel to Crete, Greece for our dream vacation.

Brad Harriff

Service Advisor

I was born and raised in Pahrump, Nevada. I moved to Reno nearly 8 years ago to attend the University of Nevada. While in school I wanted to find a job where I could get my hands dirty and fix things. Since I was about 10 I knew I wanted to find out how things worked and I enjoyed repairing things when they were broken. Naturally Roy Foster’s Automotive was a great fit for me. I began working here in 2014 as a lube technician and cleaning the shop. I progressed further into automotive repairs before becoming a service advisor in 2016. I feel like I am a good fit for my job, I believe it helps me do a better job when I am honest and compassionate with our customers, and try and understand what they are going through. I married my wife Helen in the fall of 2017; we live with our dog Roo in our first home together.

I started as a lube and tire technician, progressed into an ASE Certified Technician and have since moved into a service advisory role. I am a big sports fan; I love everything Philadelphia when it comes to sports. I am a huge Philadelphia Phillies fan and admire Ryan Howard for delivering a World Series Championship to Philadelphia. My nickname around the shop and with my friends is Collie. I am proud to be a part of the Foster family and also the family business. I began my tenure at Roy Foster’s in 2013. I started out cleaning up the office and helping clean up in the shop area. I have since been promoted to the office manager and our bookkeeper. I am very happily married to Steven Foster, a man I really admire for his work ethic, patience, and how amazing of father he is to our son Carson. In our free time we love to coach my son’s baseball team and travel around watching him play baseball. When I was a child I always wanted to be a teacher, so I really love being able to teach my son. One day I hope to retire and move to Montana and take in all the beautiful nature.

Dave Vonarx

Technician

I have been a technician for more than 40 years. I am an ASE certified Master Technician. I have been working with Roy Foster’s Automotive for almost 20 years after moving to Reno from Los Angeles. My first automotive repair experience came from maintaining and repairing my car in high school, I had a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 440. I love challenges of being a technician, I like to take on difficult tasks involving electrical problems and diagnosing vehicles that are not necessarily easy to figure out. I didn’t always think I would be a technician, when I was young I wanted to be an airline pilot and travel the world. When I retire my dream vacation is to take my wife Kathleen on a riverboat cruise through Europe.

Eric Moon

Technician

I have been born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I started working with Roy Foster’s Automotive in 1999. When I started I was mopping floors, cleaning the shop, doing oil changes and changing tires. I have since become an ASE Certified Technician. When repairing vehicles I like to first start by doing research on the vehicle’s concerns. Once I have a clear understanding of what is happening I can plan my approach for diagnosing and repairing vehicles. My detailed approach helps make my diagnosis accurate and my repairs effective. When I am not at work I love to go hiking, camping and spending time with my girlfriend Karen. I dream of one day owning my own sailboat and sailing around the world.

We get to see a lot of cars in the shop but my favorite car or dream car would be a Hennessey Venom F5 with 1817 horsepower. I hope to one day travel to Tahiti with my wife Pam.

I am 18 years old and I am a senior at McQueen High School. Just like my dad and brother Mike I began working in the shop in my early teens performing basic tasks like oil changes, tire patches, and cleaning. I have since entered the apprentice program our shop offers to help accelerate my automotive education. I really love working with my family and for my dad. My dad is my hero, my entire life he has always put his family first and worked very hard to provide a great life for our family. If I am not at work or school you will likely find me playing baseball for the varsity baseball team at McQueen, skiing, or hanging out with friends. I am hopeful that I will be able to play baseball in college and hope to earn a scholarship to do so. I dream of going to Maui and scuba diving with the fish and hanging out on the beach.

I am 16 years old and am a sophomore at McQueen HS. Like most Foster boys I began working in the shop very young at 13 years old. I feel privileged to be able to have an opportunity to start working at such a young age. I am currently enrolled in the apprenticeship program where I am training to be a certified technician. The apprenticeship program affords me the opportunity to work under ASE Master Technicians and learn so much every day. I have quite a few hobbies outside of cars that include restoring high end tennis shoes, skiing with my brothers and dad, and playing baseball at McQueen HS. Over time I hope to learn how to do engine replacements and be able to customize vehicles for looks and speed.
